Proposal to introduce new subcategories for vehicles equipped with Automated Driving Systems

The 17th Session of the Working Party on Automated/Autonomous and Connected Vehicles (GRVA) was held from September 25 to 29, 2023 at the Palace of Nations in Geneva, attended by a representative of the Connected and Autonomous Vehicles Competence Centre (CK:PAP) Dr. Eng. Artur Gołowicz. During the meeting, the need to introduce changes in the categorization of vehicles equipped with ADS (Automated Driving Systems) was discussed.

“Hands-off, eyes-on” driving mode and Active Lane Change Assist approved on German motorways

The advanced driver assistance system - Autobahnassistent - developed by BMW has been approved for use on motorways at speeds up to 130 km/h (81 mph). An additional feature, unique on a global scale, is Active Lane Change Assist, which can be initiated and confirmed by the driver's glance in the exterior mirror. Approval for the use of the systems was issued in June 2023 by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority - Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA).

Task 1 of the DARTS project completed
