The implementation of vehicles equipped with automated functions and autonomous vehicles requires research to verify whether new technologies will be safe. Tests in real traffic conditions are expensive, time-consuming and difficult to implement for various reasons so the real-world traffic testing phase is usually preceded by laboratory simulations. Scenario databases collect data that reflect real-world conditions and are essential for proper simulation.

With the introduction of the General Safety Regulation, all new vehicles sold and registered for the first time in the European Union after 7 July 2024 must be equipped with certain driver assistance systems, which will improve road safety. In October 2024, Euro NCAP published the test results of five Level 2 automated driving systems from five different vehicle manufacturers.

On September 23-27, 2024, the XX meeting of experts on automated, autonomous and connected vehicles GRVA took place in Geneva. The meeting was attended by a representative of the Connected and Autonomous Vehicles Competence Center (CK:PAP) Dr. Eng. Artur Gołowicz. The group of experts established within the GRVA belongs to WP.29 - World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations.

The 13th Conference of the Polish Chamber of Commerce of Driver Training Centers was held in Krynica Zdrój on September 13-15, 2024. The conference was attended by experts from the Connected and Autonomous Vehicles Competence Centre (CK:PAP): Dr. Ewa Odachowska-Rogalska and Prof. Dr. Hab. Eng. Marcin Ślęzak.

U.S. lawmakers is expected to propose barring Chinese software in autonomous and connected vehicles in the coming weeks. The proposed rule would prohibit Chinese software in vehicles with Level 3 automation and above. The above-mentioned amendment to the regulations may could come in September and would effectively bar Chinese companies from testing their self-driving tech on American roads.

On August 16, 2024, as part of its commitment to reducing fatalities and serious injuries on U.S. roadways, the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) announced its plan to implement Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology – Saving Lives with Connectivity: A Plan to Accelerate V2X Deployment.

Automation in aviation has gone far beyond the autopilot function. Artificial intelligence is now enabling the development of both on-board and airport systems. In early July 2024, it was reported that Japan's largest airline, All Nippon Airways (ANA), together with Toyota Industries, are beginning tests of an autonomous vehicle to tow cargo containers at Haneda Airport in Tokyo.

On 12 July 2024, the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act), Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 13 June 2024 laying down harmonised rules on artificial intelligence was published in the Official Journal of the European Commission. This is the first legal act in the world that comprehensively regulates issues related to the broadly understood use of artificial intelligence.

In order to improve road safety, in particular to reduce the number of road accidents resulting from human errors, the European Union is introducing regulations aimed at changing the current situation. From July 7, 2024, every new vehicle sold in European Union countries must be equipped with the following safety systems: ADDW - Advanced Driver Distraction Warning, ISA - Intelligent Speed Assist, AEB - Autonomous Emergency Braking, REIS - Reversing Information System, EDR - Event Data Recorder.
